Beer Can Chicken

Prepare:

  1. Remove neck and giblets from chicken, discard or save for another use.

  2. Rinse chicken, pat dry with paper towels.

  3. Rub chicken with oil, then sprinkle steak seasoning all over chicken; rub seasoning into the chicken.

  4. Place chicken on a plate and refrigerate uncovered for 2 hours.


Grill:

  1. Make certain that the beer can chicken will fit in your BBQ before lighting grill.

  2. Open the can of beer, remove (or drink) half of the beer.

  3. Place the chicken on the beer can; set beer can chicken on grill.

  4. Grill (covered) over medium-high indirect heat for about 1 ½ hours, or until a thermometer inserted in the thigh area reads 180°F.

  5. Remove chicken from the grill, discard beer can. Place chicken in a baking dish; cover with foil and let rest for 10 minutes.

  6. Carve, pouring juices from the baking dish over sliced chicken.


Bake:

  1. Remove all racks from oven, except for the bottom one.

  2. Preheat oven to 350°F.

  3. Open the can of beer, remove (or drink) half of the beer.

  4. Place the chicken on the beer can, and put it on a foil lined, rimmed baking sheet.

  5. Carefully put the baking sheet in the oven; bake for about 1 ½ hours, or until a thermometer inserted in the thigh area reads 180°F.

  6. Remove chicken from oven, discard beer can. Place chicken in a baking dish; cover with foil and let rest for 10 minutes.

  7. Carve, pouring juices from the baking dish over sliced chicken.
